Further afield
Strontian is the perfect base for exploring Ardnamurchan and even further afield. Here are just a few suggestions for a day out.

Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point on the British mainland. Visit the lighthouse and exhibition, along with the Coffee Shop. On clear days you can see all the way to the Outer Hebrides, while in the waters around the point whales, dolphin and basking shark are often spotted.

Nadurra, formerly known as the Natural History Centre, features an exhibition centre and the Antler tea room (complete with an amazing grapevine during the summer).

For castle-baggers, or just those who enjoy the peaceful and picturesque, a visit to Castle Tioram is a must. Set on a tidal island and looking down a sheltered sea loch towards the Small Isle, Tioram has a fascinating history.

And there’s so much more to do and see: a trip to Skye from Mallaig; visit mysterious Loch Ness or breath-taking Glencoe; ride the steam train on the West Highland line; how about the Sea Life Centre near Oban; or historic Bonawe iron furnace; a day trip to Mull and Iona; well, you get the idea…
